This event took place at Camberwell Leisure Pool as part of the Camberwell Arts Festival on midsummer night.
Where grime meets country and western- where boxing meets finger knitting - strange views of Camberwell through the
creative eyes of young film makers who have worked with artists Karen Whiteread and Beverley Carpenter in SE5.
These film were projected over the pool and reflected in the water with 'bling ducks' floating between. Dancers from
Kids Company and St Michaels and all Angels school performed by the poolside.
The DVD accompanying these films and forthcoming Camberwell Youth Forum allow an exploration of youth provision and what is missing
for young people in their area. This forum will give local young people a voice, fun interaction and inform youth providers and council departments
in response to ideas and aspirations.
Oblique Arts was commissioned by
Camberwell Arts to deliver a youth forum for the SE5 area. This project
has involved engaging young people through arts workshops. They will
discuss and feed information to an online forum which will be part of
the SE5 Forum that currently under re-construction.
A series of workshops took place at Kids Company St Michaels and All
Angels School. Participants were taken through a process of developing
ideas and learning skills through arts led workshops.
They studied for Arts Awards as part of this process. During the
workshops representatives were identified who will become key peer
leaders. These reps will be introduced to the online environment. They
will establish a structure for regular engagement and will gradually
widen the circle of participants from those who have attended workshops
to new online 'friends'. It is envisaged that the youth area of the
forum will be laid out in much the same way as a social networking
site.
Key information will be passed from the online Youth Forum to a council
representative who will ensure representation and response within the
council.
